Construction of California Speedway began in November, 1995. Two years later, Marlboro Team Penske driver, Paul Tracy, became the first driver to run on California Speedway’s new 2-mile oval race track. That same year, IROC cars, driven by Dave Marcis and Jay Sauter, are tested for the first time. Also in 1997, the first NASCAR Winston Cup and Winston West Series Open Test Session take place at California Speedway. Today, this superior Southern California race track, which is situated on 568 acres, is the site of many thrilling NASCAR events, such as the Busch Series Race and the NEXTEL Cup Series Race.
